Substitute Teacher
New Sub

Hey everyone!

I put in my application to sub last week and was put on the sub list today. I'm working in a small district, at the pre-k and elementary school. Anyone have any tips for me? I'm kind of nervous about my first day!
I gave out an introductory letter to all of the teachers this morning, do you think that I might be able to get any jobs before Christmas break? Someone mentioned that the pre-k was hard up for subs, so I am hoping I might be able to get a few days of work during the next two weeks.
How many of you subs get to work every day? And, how long did it take you to get to that point?

Thanks!

It's really hard to say how it will be for your district, but in mine I can easily get a job every day. I didn't really start getting any work at all until late September.

I really recommend leaving detailed and objective notes for your teachers. Also, be very nice to the secretaries! Doing both these things can get you jobs preferentially. There's one school in my district that calls me when they need a sub, and it makes my life way easier.

Good luck!

Welcome! The more grades you're open to teaching, and the more schools you add to your subbing list, the more you'll work. You might want to head over to the surrounding schools and apply there as well.
