Sometimes I'll have kids go "nooo" or "awwww" when they have to come to me instead of another class. I just soak it in and say "yup that's right! Let the torture begin!" and evil laugh.

You're not doing anything wrong. You might make them work more than another teacher, or not give them as much freedom or it might be nothing at all. Don't worry

I have had student get honest with me that they just hate reading anything that isn't on a screen (which is ironic considering their class is on a web site), or they just don't like to write. Very few have told me that I'm the problem. If there is the rare personality conflict, I call the counselor and suggest the student be moved to another teacher. It's tough not taking it personally, but I do my best.
